Job Summary:
The Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) is an essential part of the medical staff for Parker County Hospital District’s Telemedicine Health Program (THP). Under the supervision and delegation of the CMO, the ANP performs all duties associated with providing healthcare services. The ANP is an integral part of the day to day operations of the Telemedicine Health Program (THP) in accordance with the overall goals set forth by the CMO, Outreach Department, and District administration.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1.Perform history and physical examinations on pediatric and adult patients via telemedicine according to the policies/procedures of the THP.
2.Complete progress notes accurately and in a timely manner.
3.Give written or verbal orders for the following:
a)Routine laboratory and diagnostic studies.
b)General patient care measures, including diet, activity levels, routine vital signs.
c)Prescribes medications in accordance with clinical policy, state and federal law.
4.Counsel the patient/guardian as to preventative care, medical problems, exercise, diet, smoking cessation, other lifestyle changes and the use of prescribed treatments and drugs.
5.Communicate and request assistance from CMO when needed for more challenging diagnoses and/or treatment decisions.
6.Make tentative diagnoses and decisions about treatment of patients.
7.Obtain, compile and record patient medical data, including health history, progress notes and results of physical examination.
8.Communicate effectively with the CMO, school nurses and other co-workers via phone, email, written form or in person.
9.Knowledge of appropriate emergency medical procedures (i.e. strokes, diabetic emergencies, seizure victims).
10.Use of proper aseptic technique for health care setting.
11.Follow proper biohazard procedures.
12.Make necessary referral or consultations for services not provided by the THP.
13.Use relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether or not practices/processes comply with laws, regulations or general standards of practice.
Additional Responsibilities:
1.Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1.Maintain current ANP licensing.
2.Maintain CME credits.
3.Knowledge of medical terminology.
4.Working knowledge of computers in a health care setting (hardware/software), including EMR, internet, email, etc.
Education and Experience:
1.Completion of accredited Nurse Practitioner Program leading to a master’s degree and/or meets the Advanced Nursing Practice requirements set forth by the Texas Medical Board or the Texas State Board of Nursing.
2.Must possess appropriate certification and degree from a United States institution of Higher Education.
3.Must be licensed in the State of Texas prior to employment.
4.A minimum of two year of previous pediatric and adult experience, preferred.
